Used Renault Megane

The Megane is a popular model from the French Car manufacturer Megane, which is available in a range of body styles including 3-door hatchback, 5-door hatchback, estate, coupe and cabriolet. Because of this anyone who is interested in buying a used Renault Megane should be spoiled for choice, with plenty of potential purchases to choose between.

As with any used car purchase it is a good idea to make sure that you know what you are looking for when you go to see a second-hand Megane. If you know what common faults and problems to look out for then you stand a good chance of picking up a car that is in good condition and will not need expensive repairs in the near future. Of course it is still important to check over the whole car and the take it for an extensive test drive, rather than purely looking for a pre-defined set of problems, but you can do this much more effectively if you go pre-armed with a little bit of insider knowledge.

Renault has been making a great effort in recent years to improve the reliability of its cars. But despite this the firm still scores below average in the big reliability surveys, and the Megane is only a few points from the bottom of JD Power customer satisfaction survey.

Many of the most common faults seem to come from the car’s electrics. Make sure that you check that all of the electric windows work properly, as well as the indicators and the wipers. Many owners have also reported faults on the keyless ignition and entry system.

If you hear a squealing noise from the brakes then you will need to change the pads. This is not hugely expensive, but you should still try to negotiate an appropriate price reduction.

If the car you are looking at has problems starting, or if you notice a sluggish engine response, then that could indicate a much more expensive problem.
